Review:
I'm going to be honest this book took me a lot longer finish then the first one. For one I thought this story started out a little on the slow side and nothing started to really happen until 40%.
To really understand this story I suggest reading book 1 before you start this one. Could it be read as a standalone? Yes, but even though Desrochers talks about their background in this story it really all starts with book 1.
Lee and Oliver had a relationship in college that started out as them trying to get information from each other but turned into so much more than either one of the expected. They started to work on project from class and sort of became friends before sleeping with one another. They fell in love and because of who their families are they knew it couldn't work. Lee did something before she left Oliver and before she ended up in witness protection program. It's been months but she hasn't forgot Oliver.
Oliver on the other hand has been looking for Lee for months. Finally he found a lead that has brought him to a little town in Florida. He wants Lee to give him the passcode to change the wrongs she did but he also came for another reason. No matter what he can't forget Lee and all that they shared. When he sneaks up on Lee and she shoots him he knows one thing that he loves her more than ever and now he is determined to find a way they can be together.
As I said before this book doesn't really pick up until 40% but also while reading the description of the book doesn't really match the book. For instance the blurb talks about Lee bringing down Oliver with agent Callahan but Callahan is literally mentioned 3 times during the entire book and doesn't make even appearance. I think the blurb was meant to be Wes who is the agent in charge of their witness protection. Lee and him get close but it has nothing to do with taking down Oliver, well not at first anyway.
As far as action goes compared to the first book this didn't really have anyone after them trying to kill them even though Lee and her family think that Oliver is. I felt this book was pretty tame for it being about two crime families from Chicago. I guess I was expecting a little more action and suspense.
The romance was there and there was also more sex scenes then the first book. I love how the author had the characters remember their time together during the story. I liked getting a glimpse into what their relationship was like before their fathers were sent to jail and before Lee ended up in the program.
From reading it looks like Grants book is next and honestly I'm dying to know where he goes and doesn't come home. I also want to know who the girl is at the end of book. It sounds like he had a relationship even when he didn't want one cause they are seen having a fight! Hopefully the next book is a little better and contains a little more suspense then this one did. *crosses fingers *
